Y'know, when I was a hippie (well, hippie-ish), I didn't like the then-current content in LI'L ABNER, and the man may have been a complete scumbag, but I've always thought that he was one helluva cartoonist/writer -- no matter HOW many assistants he had! He was loud and outrageous and a real character, qualities I still aspire to...

NONE of it is "pathetic"; it's young human weirdness, very innocent. (Okay, maybe NOT so innocent, HA!) Very real, very sweet, very FAMILIAR! I had crushes on John Wayne (egad!) and "Hoss" and "Adam" on Bonanza. So THERE. ;-)
